Chris Carter’s Harsh Realm premiered in 1999 on the Fox Network with 7.5 million viewers. It was inspired and loosely based on the Harsh Realm comic books created by Andrew Paquette and James Hurndall.

Sarah-Jane Redmond had a recurring role, as the mysterious military advisor Inga Fossa. Harsh Realm not only reunited Sarah-Jane with series creator and executive producer Chris Carter, but also the enigmatic actor Terry O’Quinn (Millennium, Lost, The X-Files: Fight The Future) as the evil General Omar Santiago.

Also to be seen in the pilot episode was actor Lance Henriksen (Millennium, Aliens, The Right Stuff, Aliens vs Predator) portraying a military officer. Observant viewers will no doubt also recognise the voice of X-Files star Gillian Anderson who provides a video clip voice-over.

Despite Carter bringing together a familiar and talented team including Vince Gilligan, Frank Spotnitz, Daniel Sackheim, Kim Manners, John Shiban, Mark Snow and other Ten Thirteen Productions alumni, Harsh Realm was pulled after just the first 3 episodes aired, and sadly only nine episodes were produced. Later episodes were shown on the FX channel in 2000, with repeats of the series airing in Fall 2007 on CBC Country Canada.

The complete Harsh Realm series with originally unaired episodes was released to buy on DVD and is well worth viewing in its own right, but especially so for fans of Carter, Redmond, Henriksen and O’Quinn.
